Pursuit of Happiness

Pursuit of Happiness, very familiar words down through the ages. But, happiness doesn't always come in the form that people think it will. We live in a world with an abundance of unhappy people. The majority, according to a survey, are not happy with their jobs. Many are not happy with their mates. If you could get an honest answer from most pastors, you would find that the majority are unhappy with their church.

Why is it that we have so many unhappy people? Let me give you just a few reasons.

1. Many people are looking for happiness in fame. But some of the most unhappy people are famous people. Check the movie stars of yesterday and today. Why do you suppose that they can't find happiness?

2. Some think they can find happiness in material things - a bigger house, a more expensive automobile, a condo at the beach, a cabin in the mountains. These things don't bring true happiness.

3. Some seek happiness in wealth. If I can just accumulate a little more wealth, I can be happy. But money cannot buy happiness. You may say I would like to find out if it will.

4. Many seek happiness in amorality, sexual sins, drugs, alcohol and other sins of the flesh only to find that these bring only unhappiness. For you see, happiness does not come from without but from within.

Conclusion: True happiness can only be found when a person comes to know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. And surrenders his will to Christ and Christ becomes the Lord of his life.  Paul said, "I have learned in whatever state I am in to be content."

I have observed many a person who had all the reason in the world to be unhappy, but they choose to be happy. If you are saved and on your way to heaven, why be sad and unhappy?
