Topic: Last One Leaving Turn out the Lights

Scripture: Matthew 25:1-13

How many of us have heard these words, even have seen these words printed. (with also " lock the doors") . The last thing I do before I retire at night is to make sure the doors are locked, and all the lights are turned out. That is generally about midnight.

In the parable of the 10 virgins here in Matthew chapter twenty, verse six, "And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold the bridegroom cometh." Say, if He comes at midnight I don't want to be slumbering and sleeping. I know that isn't to be taken literally. Because He can come any hour, or moment of the day or night. But He is coming and when He does the lights are going to be turned out and the door shut as it was for the five foolish virgins. HE IS COMING AGAIN!

First: The Certainty of His Coming.

He told his disciples in John 14 that He was going to prepare a place for them and would come again to receive them unto Himself. He makes that same promisee to you and me today if we know Him as our Saviour. His disciples were with Him after His death and resurrection. Suddenly they watched His resurrected body ascend into the clouds. As they stood there watching Him disappear, two men (angels) in white apparel spoke to them, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven." Acts 1: 10 -11.

God has never made a promise that He has not or will not keep. Men make promises, some they want to keep but can't, some forget about their promises, but God does not make a promise He cannot keep, neither does He forget a promise He has made. Jesus is Coming.

Secondly, the Condition of the World at His coming.

Jesus said in Matthew 24, verses 37-39 "As the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. As in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noe entered the ark. And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be."

Peter tells us that in the last days there will be those who scoff at the preaching of the second coming of Jesus Christ, walking in their own lust, arguing where is the promise of his coming. Every thing continues today just like it has in the past. Paul writes to Timothy these words. "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly that, in the latter time, some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of demons." I Tim.4:1. Also "This know, also, that in the last days perilous (dangerous) times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it; from such turn away." II Timothy, Chapter 3, Verses 1 - 5. Is this not a description of these days in which we live?

Thirdly: The Closeness of His coming.

We know that no man knows what hour or day, or year He will come. But the Bible does indicate that there are signs that His coming is near. Those I have already mention, these are the spiritual, But there are physical signs, that indicate that we are near His coming. I don't think there is a prophecy to be fulfilled that would delay His coming at any moment. The bible states that Israel would return to the land that God gave to the nation of Israel. Since 70 AD they had been scattered to the four corners of the earth. God made a promise to them that He would bring them back. Amos, Chapter 9. Verses 14 and 15 "And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them, and they shall plant vineyards, and drink their wine; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord ,thy God." This has happened in my life time. Why would anyone want to pick up their family and move to Israel? The nation is under the threat of suicide bombers, the danger of all out war. The truth is the Jews can't help it. God has and is drawing them back. In 1949 Israel was once again recognized as a nation. The six day war gave them the site of the temple that was destroyed when they were disbursed.

Daniel was instructed that in the end times that knowledge shall increase. Read Daniel 12: 1-4. Think back 200 years, no automobiles, airplanes, and on we could go. I hear that knowledge doubles every 5 years. We are told that the Gospel is to be preached to all nations, this is happening, by satellite and other means. I have here beside my computer a wireless cell phone that I can dial my daughter and her family in Denver, CO. And if she is not at home I can call her cell phone number and talk to her wherever she is. In fact I can buy a phone which if she has one like it, I cannot only talk to her but can see her as I talk and she can see me. Who ever dreamed that something like this was possible. I remember the football coach of the High School where my daughter was a senior in 1976, pulling a joke on me which I fell for. He brought a phone over to me in the gym and told me that someone wanted to speak to me. It only had a short cord unattached to an outlet, When I answered it, everyone in the group, had a big laugh. I had been taken. There were no wireless phones then, but now everywhere you go you see almost everyone with one hanging on their belt or being held to their ear. What Daniel was given by the Lord has come and still is being fulfilled in our day. Get ready the time is short, I believe.

Fourth, the Consternation at His coming.

Webster's dictionary, describes this as fear or shock. Can you imagine the confusion on planet earth when He come? Just think, planes crashing because the pilots are Christians and are caught up to meet Jesus, wrecks on the highways and streets, Pastors and not all but most of the congregation disappears, maybe in the middle of a worship service. Maybe parents who are unsaved, put their baby in its crib. Jesus comes in the night, the next morning when the mother goes to care for her baby, the baby is gone. The bed clothes are there, but the child was caught up in the rapture. Can't you hear her screaming, "Someone has kidnapped my baby!" Just use your imagination. The fear and the shock that will come to America and other nations where Christians are in number. There will be those who will try to explain what has happened, some will know, but they waited till the lights were turned out and the door locked. Like the 5 foolish virgins, missed the marriage supper of the lamb. The Bridegroom has come and they are left behind.

Conclusion: The Contemplation of His coming.

The early church looked for His return during their generation. But today in most Christian's lives, expectancy has given away to complacency. Like the wise virgins, they too were slumbering and sleeping. As I look at the condition of the world, what is happening in the Mideast, and many other signs of the times, I feel that we can almost hear the shout, "The Bridegroom Cometh!" The Trumpet will sound, and these mortal bodies will put on immortality as we ascend into heaven to meet our Savior, Jesus Christ and those who have gone before us.

"Even so, come Lord Jesus" Rev. 22: 20 Amen, Amen.
