Topic: Who is Jesus?
Matt: 16- 13-20
As I thought on 'Who is Jesus?' my mind went back to many years ago when I was in Jamaica, West Indies, staying in Pastor Corruthers' home. He was the Secretary of Evangelism for the Jamaica Baptist Union and Pastor of Falmouth Baptist Church in Falmouth, where I was conducting an evangelist crusade.
Scheduled during the day on Saturday was an island-wide youth rally. Hundreds came to the rally. I did not speak, but I listened to those hundred of voices singing this chorus "Everybody ought to know who Jesus is." I have a recording of their voices, some of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. While some sang "Everybody ought to know" others were singing, "Some people don't know." So true, some people don't know.
In the next few weeks I will be presenting messages on Satellite TV and Radio to thousands who don't know who Jesus is. Do you know who he is? Jesus asked his disciples who they thought He was, not what others were saying about Him. If you went on the streets across America and asked the question of those you meet. "Who is Jesus"? You no doubt would get many different answers. If you meet me and ask me that Question, I know that I would say, "He is my personal Savior and Lord, who died for me." Knowing me I would add a lot more.
But let's ask some who knew Him in the flesh: John the Baptist - "Behold the Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world." Peter - "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God. "Nicodemus - "Thou art a teacher come from God."
We could give you many names and titles of Jesus and His works, but that isn't what we need to know. Who is He personally to you? Is he just a historical person, someone you have read about, or heard about in church or Sunday school - even heard someone use His name in vain, even heard someone pray in His name? But, who is Jesus? He is the Virgin Born Son of God, who lived a sinless life, died on a Roman Cross, placed in a borrowed tomb, which could not hold Him, the third day arose from the dead, appearing to many disciples, ascending back to heaven where He is at the right hand of God making intercession for those who know Him as their personal savior and Lord.
If you don't know Him, come to Him today. Ask for His forgiveness and invite Him to become your savior.
